District Woodland Day 2025
5th October 2025
Last weekend, 114 Cubs and Scouts from across Ashford came together at Kings Wood, Challock for an action-packed activity day of traditional Scouting. Supported by over 30 Leaders, it was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to challenge themselves and learn new skills in the great outdoors.
The day began with a morning of orienteering delivered by Saxons Orienteering Club. For many of our young people this was their first experience of orienteering, and the enthusiasm and expertise of Saxons’ volunteers made it a thoroughly enjoyable and valuable session. (You can find out more about Saxons at https://www.saxons-oc.org/).
In the afternoon, participants rotated through a series of hands-on activity bases designed to develop their practical Scouting skills. These included:
- Pioneering - building structures and learning new knots and lashings
- Axe, Knife and Saw - learning how to use essential tools safely
- First Aid - practising vital life-saving skills
It was inspiring to see so many young people embracing challenges, working together, and supporting each other throughout the day.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the event possible - the Programme Team who worked for months to plan it, the Leaders who gave up their weekend to pass on skills, and Saxons Orienteering Club for their excellent morning session.
