Litter-ally Making a Difference!
20th May 2026
A group of young community champions from the 6th Ashford Beaver Colony have been making a remarkable impact in South Ashford, proving that even the smallest hands can make a big difference.
Armed with scrubbing brushes, scouring pads, cleaning spray, litter pickers and rubbish bags, the enthusiastic Beavers set out on a mission to improve their local neighbourhood. In just a single meeting session, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work cleaning road signs and collecting litter from nearby streets.
While time limited how far they could travel, the group's efforts were far from small. By the end of the session, they had filled an entire bag with rubbish and restored several road signs that had clearly been in need of attention for some time. Their hard work has already made South Ashford a cleaner, brighter and more welcoming place for everyone.
But perhaps the most inspiring part of the day came from the local residents themselves. As the Beavers worked, they were met with smiles, words of encouragement and heartfelt thanks from members of the community who appreciated the young volunteers' efforts. Their actions not only improved the environment but also lifted spirits, spreading positivity throughout the neighbourhood.
Leaders of the 6th Ashford Beaver Colony praised the children's enthusiasm and commitment, highlighting the importance of community service and teamwork from an early age. Activities like this help young people develop a sense of responsibility, pride in their surroundings, and the confidence that they can make a difference.
The Beavers themselves, however, had a clear and simple message for everyone:
"Put your rubbish in the bin – we shouldn't have to do it for you!"
It's a reminder that while community initiatives like this are invaluable, keeping our streets clean is a shared responsibility. The efforts of the 6th Ashford Beavers show what can be achieved when people come together, but they also highlight how much easier it would be if everyone did their part.
With their energy, positivity and determination, the 6th Ashford Beaver Colony have set a shining example of what true community spirit looks like. South Ashford is undoubtedly a better place thanks to their efforts - and they've inspired others to follow in their footsteps.
